The Monday that just passed was a public holiday and even though we were attending the Il Divo concert (it was a fantastic concert!) at night, we thought we will still bring the children for a jaunt in nature during the morning! This time we thought we would try something a bit more ambitious and headed to Bukit Timah Hill.

We arrived shortly after 9.30am and was shocked to see the numbers of cars in the carpark. Good thing though the really early birds were ready to go and even though we had to wait a bit for a lot, it wasn’t as long as I had feared.

It was a beautiful morning, not too hot due to a cloudy sky and breezy. We took the children for a walk round the exhibition room at the visitor centre while waiting for Philson and his family to arrive. (It does seem that they are always late, aren’t they? *grin*).

Water parade first before setting off!

The first part of the path is really steep but I was pleasantly surprised that both children were able to scale it on their own, albeit holding onto their mother’s hands. As soon as the path levelled off, they wanted to go off on their own, holding hands! Children!

Let’s go pak tor!

We saw lots of monkey along the way, what fascinated Talia the most was how a little baby monkey was sitting on its mummy’s back and being carried around!

The stroll was leisurely and enjoyable, the canopy above providing excellent shade. We heard birds and crickets chirping and could almost imagine ourselves in the middle of a huge forest if not for the the occasional high pitched laughter of a child jolting us back into reality.

Monkeys!

Philson’s family trotting along.

There are lots of things to see along the way. We saw huge forest ants, butterflies, lizards, squirrels, really tall trees, and even a snake! That seriously freaked me out! I dashed off as fast as I could. According to those who stopped to admire it, it was a very small coral snake and was really pretty to look at! Eeeks! That seriously sent shivers up my spine. Oh we also saw this really amazing pink toadstools on this tree bark!

Pink!

The children also picked up twigs along the way and was having fun with it sweeping at dried leaves on the ground, poking at the bushes, chasing ants on the ground.

Yeah to our twigs!

It took us about 1.5 hrs to trek up to the top of our puny hill and to commemorate that, we had the children posed with the huge rock with the words “Bukit Timah Summit” on it!

We made it!

That was for the adults, but for the children, a pack of pocky to be shared made everything worth it!

Yummy!
